ISAM (Information Systems Asset Management) was founded in 1996 to assist data centers in reducing their software costs using world–class software asset management (SAM) practices.
ISAM recognized that mainframe and distributed software portfolio costs were rising at a faster rate than data center hardware and maintenance services. Without competitive pricing information and a thorough comprehension of SAM practices, data center managers had little leverage to effectively manage the software portfolio costs that were increasingly affecting their bottom line.
